Ben Simpson has been the Wildlife Resource Manager in the Penobscot Nation Department of Natural Resources since 2019. Before starting with the Penobscot Nation, Ben worked for the Department of Environmental Conservation in New York specializing in big game and nuisance bears. Ben has a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire in Wildlife Management.
Ben received a master’s degree in Wildlife Ecology from South Dakota State University in 2015 studying elk ecology in the Black Hills of South Dakota. After finishing his graduate degree, Ben traveled the country working seasonal wildlife technician jobs and working on a variety of wildlife research projects. Some of the highlights from those years include trapping mountain lions in Colorado, collecting grizzly bear hair in Montana, and monitoring piping plover populations on the Missouri River in South Dakota.
