Dr. Danilo Fernando is an Associate Professor from the Department of Environmental Biology at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, Syracuse, New York. He is a broadly trained plant biologist and as part of his research program on conservation genetics, he is actively engaged in plant population genetics and genetic diversity analysis, particularly of rare and threatened species. He uses genomic approaches in determining population structure and defining population boundaries to elucidate the historical processes and natural history characteristics that led to current composition of populations and species.
His research program fits well with the mission of NSRC by promoting the conservation of genetic variation as an important component of healthy forests and sustainable forest management and a key to preserving species and populations for the future.
