A co-founder of the Vermont Center for Ecostudies, Steve Faccio is an ecologist and conservation biologist with wide-ranging interests in forest ecology and terrestrial vertebrates. Although much of Steve’s work focuses on long-term population monitoring of forest songbirds and vernal pools, the ecology of pool-breeding amphibians, and vernal pool mapping and conservation, he is also interested in the nexus of land use and land management and how they impact wildlife populations.
Steve received his MS in zoology from Southern Connecticut State University, where he studied the activity patterns and habitat selection of a reintroduced population of fishers. Steve serves on the Vermont Endangered Species Committee’s Reptile and Amphibian Scientific Advisory Group and on the Strafford Conservation Commission. He is an avid backcountry skier and enjoys mountain biking, hiking, making furniture, and wood-fired pizza ovens.
